How to play

  1. 1Rounders — a bat, a ball, a few makeshift bases; works on any patch of lawn big enough for four.
  2. 2Giant Jenga or Connect 4 — sits in the corner all afternoon, easy for anyone to join mid-game.
  3. 3Cornhole or bean bag toss — quick to set up, keeps working after a few drinks have gone round.
  4. 4French cricket — one bat, one ball, no wickets to lug about.
  5. 5DartUp, Social side — pub-safe forfeits and points instead of shots, propped against a fence or a shed wall.
  6. 6Water balloon or sponge relay — save it for when the kids, or the adults, need to burn some energy off.

Tips

  • → Keep the boozy games separate from the kid-friendly ones — don't make one board do both jobs.
  • → Check the wind before anything involving bunting or paper plates goes up.
  • → Put shade and water out early. Garden parties always run longer than anyone plans for.
